What makes a successful logo?

Fundamentally, a logo is simply a collection of lines, words, shapes and colours that identifies a business or organisation. But we all know that it’s so much more. Think of common household brands and how their logo makes you feel; the luxury of a Tiffany & Co. gift bag, the athleticism of your favourite sports brand, or the familiarity and comfort of a bottle of Heinz.

Whether you are starting out in a new venture or looking to develop your existing business, your logo plays an important role in your brand. It will attract your ideal customer and establish their perception of what you offer and how well you do it. Your logo should reflect the nature of your business, your point of difference and your business personality.

A successful logo must be:

  • simple - not overcomplicated or fussy

  • relevant - convey what you do and help customers connect with you

  • unique - be different from other businesses

  • memorable - help customers remember, find and recommend you

  • versatile - work on all different colour backgrounds and shapes spaces

  • scalable - work equally well on a massive wall mural or tiny business card

  • future proof - not look dated and allow for mid-term growth

  • practical - work in all scenarios
