Why Google LOVES the FAQs page on your website

Depending on the nature of your business, planning your website content can be a balance between telling customers everything they need to know, and providing an opportunity for them to engage further with you. But there are specific pages that a successful website should have, one of which is an FAQs page. Why?

Just for a moment, think of Google as being a highly intelligent and obedient Labrador puppy (without the chewed furniture or accidents on the kitchen floor). When you type into a Google search, it’s Google’s job to find the solution as efficiently as possible. As per the excited puppy, it’ll scurry off to find the best answer, in the quickest time. When you then click on the search result, that’s an effective pat on the head to our adorable puppy who will feel warm and fuzzy for doing a good job. Cue much tail wagging. And next time someone asks the same question, Google knows exactly where to go to find the best answer - it worked last time so it can be trusted.

Of course, it’s absolutely not that simple, but hopefully it helps you imagine what Google might be thinking. That it WANTS to find you.

And this is where the trusty FAQ page really shines. Here are 10 reasons why Google loves FAQs (and will reward you for it):

  1. You can provide the best answer to the question your customer is asking

  2. Be focussed and specific to answer specific questions

  3. Provide answers are uniquely relevant to your business

  4. Show customers that you care about their experience

  5. Be wholeheartedly positive and direct questions to give ‘yes’ answers!

  6. Help your customers make an informed decision about their purchase

  7. Build trust in your business with honesty and transparency

  8. Signpost customers to important details such as your delivery costs

  9. Overcome challenges or barriers that might be stopping them from buying from you

  10. Elevate your business as being more attentive than your competitors

When creating your website content, you want to be crystal clear about the key points of your business; who, what, when, why and where.

Be direct. Answer their concerns and make it as easy as possible for them to engage with you.

Don’t lose your customers between the cracks of interference or assumption.

And it really helps if all of your FAQs are asked in such a way that you can give a positive ‘Yes - absolutely!’ response!
